Baby Development in 
16 Week 

By 16 week, baby will be roughly of the size of a lemonade or avocado. The fetus may start movement now and can grip the umbilical cord. The nervous system will still be developing and baby may flex muscles in limbs. Backbone and muscles will gain strength inured to straighten out the head and neck more. Facial muscles will also develop. The baby’s eyes will be moving as well and will be perceiving light. Baby’s face will look more like a human now. The skin of baby is delicate and soft due to no baby fat yet. By this time, baby will be able to hear your voice as well.


This is crucial time in your pregnancy. Iron is very important for the prevention of any complications for both mother and the baby. Lack of iron causes anemia that can make you feel tired and weak. You should take care of your health and try to eat a healthy and balanced diet. You should increase intake of:

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables like apples, bananas, green leafy vegetables like spinach etc.
  • Unsaturated fats like olive oil or canola oil.
  • Eat folic acid rich foods. Folic acid is found naturally in foods like green leafy vegetables, beans, peas, bananas and broccoli etc and all of such foods are important for neural development.
  • Iron helps to make extra blood to supply oxygen to your baby. Eat iron rich foods like beef, spinach, beans and potatoes.
  • Maintain a balanced diet.

Decrease calories such as in sweetened beverages with added sugars including soft drinks etc.


Don’t forget to your healthcare provider before starting any exercise. Remember a few tips like:

  • Avoid lying on your back.
  • Don’t exercise to the point that you feel tired and exhausted.
  • Pregnancy exercises are many like walking, yoga and many other healthy choices.


  • You should take care of a few things in your second trimester. You should remember a few tips like:
    • Stay well hydrated.
    • Pregnancy hormones will make your skin a bit sensitive. You should wear sunscreen while going outside.
    • Before taking any medicine to get relief from any problem, make sure that you discuss that medicine with your doctor.
    • You should visit dentist as clean teeth and gums prevent dangerous infections that can affect your pregnancy.
