Baby Development in Week 12

12 week pregnancy means that you are in month 3 of pregnancy. By this time, your baby is double in size during past three weeks. The external sex organs of baby will appear now or very soon due to an increase in hormonal activity. But it’s still early to know whether you will have a baby girl or a baby boy. Baby’s fingers and toes aren’t webbed anymore. Fingernails have also started developing and baby’s arms are longer as compared to feet. Eyes will move closer to each other. Baby’s kidneys will also start functioning and will produce urine. Your baby’s heartbeat is audible with an external Doppler device and you can hear it if you have an appointment with the doctor. Baby has started little movements but it’s still early to feel those movements. Muscles and organs of baby will continue to develop and baby will keep growing bigger in size.

Diet

Changes are continuously taking place in your body and your body reacts in new ways to the foods you normally eat. The hormone progesterone slows down process of digestion and causes constipation. You can get rid of this problem if you follow a few tips:
 Increase intake of fiber rich foods and by eating variety of vegetables.
 Drinking juices and increasing intake of water.
 Eating smaller and frequent meals.
 By eating slowly.

Exercise

Keeping in good shape while you are pregnant is one of the best things that you can do for yourself and the baby. Exercise is good because it makes you feel better and helps to sleep better but remember:
 Stop exercise if you get too hot, dehydrated and feel pain.
 Walk is a perfect exercise during pregnancy. Using arms while walking helps builds strength and flexibility.
 Gentle and strengthening yoga can be best for you.

At every antenatal appointment, remember that:
 Talk to your doctor about medicines and supplements that you are taking.
 Ask about safe exercises.
 Talk about the tests that you should consider during your pregnancy.
 Discuss any problem that is causing you anxiety.
